Hello there 2018!
It's been a while since my last blog entry here, hasn't it? I don't know why but I've sorta been more active over at Dayre, a micro-blogging platform that I share my daily candid moments. Perhaps it's the friendly community and the convenience of being able to write on-the-go that attracted me to that platform.
But since it's 2018, I thought I'd finally pen something here - new beginnings, yes? Well and actually it's largely because I've been paying for Squarespace's yearly domain and hosting plan since 2014, so I probaaably should try to fully utilise this space. Let's hope it becomes a routine!
So... in a blink of an eye, 2017 is now history and here we are, welcoming 2018 with a heavy thunderstorm! I thought it'll be a good idea to start off 2018 with some reflection, appreciation and thoughts, so here are 40 questions I found online that would be a pretty good fit for this entry!
1.What one event, big or small, are you going to tell your grandchildren about?
I look forward to telling my grandkids how I got surprised (by Javis, my boyfriend and hopefully their grandpa lol) with a night's stay in an Airbnb boat, and how I totally freaked out as I'm deathly afraid of water bodies and had to be carried on and off the boat like a baby. It's not a big event, but definitely something unusual and significant enough for me to remember in years to come.
2.If you had to describe your 2017 in 3 words, what would they be?
Afresh, memorable and happiness.
3.What new things did you discover about yourself?
Not necessarily a good thing, but I realised that I am someone who finds it difficult to say "no", especially to friends and family. I think it's attributed to past experiences.
4.What single achievement are you most proud of?
I'm proud of myself for defeating all the negative thoughts and getting through 2017, happily.
5.What was the best news you received?
Probably when my boyfriend Javis decided to get us a little hamster! We've always popped by the pet store to check out hamsters and dogs etc but I never thought I would actually become the mom of a little fur buddy! Probably the best moment of the year when Javis said "Let's get one?" Well, I've never had a pet before especially since growing up, I was a sickly child - so our first pet really means a lot to me.
6.What was your favourite place that you visited in 2017?
Japan! Every spot is picturesque and I really enjoyed my road trip with Javis. We also got to stay in a little boat and even forwent our flight back to Singapore just to stay a couple more days in Tokyo. And not forgetting our visit to Disney Sea, the happiest place on Earth!
7.Which of your personal qualities turned out to be the most helpful this year?
Being thoughtful and compassionate, and conscientious when it comes to work quality.
8.Who was your number one go-to person that you could always rely on?
9.Which new skills did you learn?
Well I learnt to use Final Cut Pro lol though it's really easy to figure out when you use iMovie frequently, and I guess... learning to care for a hamster, being a first-time owner of one! Oh, and I learnt to shop on Taobao despite my rather pathetic command of Chinese.
10.What, or who, are you most thankful for?
I'm thankful for Javis, who loves me unconditionally and never gives up on me even when I get upset and become the angriest, craziest and brattiest brat I know. I'm thankful that he tells the lamest jokes, laughs at my not-so-lame jokes and is always so supportive, giving and protective.
I'm also thankful for little Bambuu's existence because his little antics (like throwing popcorn out of his house) never fail to make me smile. I'm thankful for friends, family and all the sweet clients that I got to work with!
11.If someone wrote a book about your life in 2017, what kind of genre would it be? A comedy, love story, drama, film noir or something else?
I would say... a love story filled with bits of cold jokes. Probably would get a -1/10 rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
12.What was the most important lesson you learnt in 2017?
Don't say "yes" if you don't want to.
13.What 5 people did you most enjoy spending time with?
I'm not a people person... But if I had to choose, I would pick Javis, Charlene (my BFF), Xinlin, and just a couple of other good friends!
14.What was your biggest break-through moment career-wise?
Uh, not so much of a career but in 2017, I did a social media campaign with Grab that gave me the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone by talking to strangers and making new friends! It was also a little weird seeing my face on the Grab app and e-mails, which I believe Javis still keeps in his inbox.
15.What was your favourite compliment that you received this year?
That I look like I've gained weight! Before losing a whopping 5kg within the next couple of months.
16.What little things did you most enjoy during your day-to-day life?
I enjoy nonsensical talks with Javis, having a nice bowl of soup, eating my favourite fries and nuggets (kiddy food according to Javis), sleeping in on some days, texting my friends, annoying my other friends on social media, and bonding with Bambuu!
17.What cool things did you create this year?
Videos! Video-editing is still a trial and error for me as I'm not proficient in it, but I do enjoy making travel videos or videos for social media campaigns!
18.Was there anything you did for the very first time in your life this year?
I tried so much new food that I've lost track, but some memorable dishes would be... frogs? As well as the sweet ginger soup that goes with tang yuan? Lor mee? Curry rice? Mee Goreng?
19.What was your favourite moment spent with your friends?
Laughing - at each other, at others, at funny memes, at cute videos.
20.Which worries turned out to be completely unnecessary?
To be honest, I was pretty worried about entering a new relationship! It's like... I've been out of the game for the last 6 years lol and I don't really know how this whole proper relationship thing works, but it turned out to be great!
21.What experience would you love to do all over again?
I would love to travel to places like Taiwan, Japan, Phuket and Indonesia again like I did for the very first time this year! New places always intrigue me because there's the sense of unfamiliarity and while I may get really uptight because some places just aren't as safe as it is in Singapore, I really enjoy that feeling of being in somewhere foreign knowing there's so much out there for you to explore. Traveling with my partner would be a plus, because then we can explore together!
22.What was the best gift you received?
23.What purchase turned out to be the best decision ever?
Probably my Macbook! My previous Macbook lasted me for 7 years and it was so heavy that Javis often joked about it being a dumbbell that I could use as my daily exercise tool. The only gripe is that it has some very bad dents from that one time I accidentally tripped over the charger and sent my Macbook flying off the table. It would cost $600-ish just to replace the Macbook shell and I figured it wasn't worth it... Thank god it still works just as good! I'll close an eye.
24.What one thing would you do differently and why?
Resolve some conflicts differently, respond to some people differently and so on... We all learn along the way, don't we?
25.What do you deserve a pat on the back for?
For making it through 2017 without major hiccups!
26.What activities made you lose track of time?
Random games on my phone, blogging on Dayre, eating, napping and sleeping.
27.What new habits did you cultivate?
I... started working out! Through the relentless persuasion of Javis - which I believe he kinda just gave up towards the end of the year - but hey, it's progress yeah. This 2018, I hope to actually start working out regularly and to stop being that big ass procrastinator I am!
28.What advice would you give your early-2017 self if you could?
"Everything will turn out fine... Don't worry incessantly, you're more than okay!"
29.Did any parts of your self or your life do a complete 180 this year?
I became a dedicated and responsible hamster mom!
30.What or who had the biggest positive impact on your life this year?
Javis, and our relationship. I think it impacted me in more ways than one - the good, the bad and all that in-between. Even though I don't speak my mind and am deathly stubborn, I've learnt a lot through this relationship and from Javis as well.
31.What do you want the overarching theme for your 2018 to be?
Happiness, goal-oriented and independent.
32.What do you want to see, discover, explore?
The world! It's our oyster - as the saying goes.
33.Who do you want to spend more time with in 2018?
Actually, friends! I feel like I haven't caught up with many friends in a while and hopefully in 2018, I get the chance to do so!
34.What skills do you want to learn, improve or master?
Better video edits, better photography skills and.. to read more.
35.Which personal quality do you want to develop or strengthen?
Communication - I suck at it.
36.What do you want your everyday life to be like?
Content, and to go to sleep without negativity.
37.Which habits do you want to change, cultivate or get rid of?
Taking Grab wayyyy too often than I really should, as well as to work out more often and to have more supplements!
38.What do you want to achieve career-wise?
To do better than I did in 2017.
39.How do you want to remember the year 2018 when you look back on it 10/20/50 years from now?
A year of growth, happiness and stability, hopefully!
40.What is your number one goal for 2018?
To be content and happy.
