It’s been a while since I last did a ‘Favorites’ entry so here’s one to kickstart 2017! January is coming to an end (seriously, how did time fly by SO quickly?) and here’s a roundup of some of my favourite beauty and skincare products that I’ve been reaching out for very frequently.
Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream
I’m sure you’ve heard enough of this, but let me just reiterate just because: “Beauty begins with a clean canvas.” I’ve learnt through these years one of the most important steps of skincare other than sunscreen, has to be cleansing and moisturising. My go-to moisturiser these days has got to be Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream.
Because this facial cream isn’t thick in viscosity, I love that I can apply a thin layer every morning before putting on make up - and it pretty much keeps my skin moisturised through the day! If you’re not a fan of cream-based moisturisers, check out their Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream which offers fresh hydration as well.
Kiehl's Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream
Personally, I’ve been a Kiehl’s fan since I was introduced to their products a year or two ago. Other than their Hydro-Plumping Re-texturising Serum Concentrate which I particularly recommend, I also love their Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream.
With New Zealand Manuka Honey and Korean Red Ginseng Root as the key ingredients, this cream is of a thicker viscosity and has a mild sweet scent (possibly from the honey). I apply a thin layer right before I head to bed and wake up to instantly glowy and softer skin. I especially love the fact that while this cream is thick, it doesn't leave your skin feeling too heavy, clogged or sticky.
Vaseline Lip Therapy Advanced Healing
I'm a sucker for lip balms because I have very very very dry lips. They literally crack and peel immediately after washing my face or finishing a meal so I always make it a point to carry lip balm with me everywhere I go. Evidently, I have a couple of these Vaseline lip balms because I can be pretty forgetful, and when I do forget my lip balm, I buy another at the nearest Watsons or Guardian. I love that this lip balm not only provides instant relief to my dry lips, but it is fragrance-free as well!
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer
I've never been a fan of liquid concealers with sponge tip applicators because I always had the impression that they are too watery and wouldn't work well for my ridiculously dark eye rings. Well, I was proven wrong when I tried out this particular concealer! I've previously seen reviews of it but I still wasn't convinced until I finally got to try it out for myself and boy, am I impressed!
Despite it being dispensed through a sponge tip applicator, a very thin layer is all I need to make my dark eye rings look decent enough to face the world. I do occasionally layer some of The Saem's Cover Perfection Tip Concealer before setting my under eyes with a thin layer of RCMA's No Colour Powder.
Clio Water Kill Pen Liner in Kill Black
I've grown to love pen and ink liners over the years as their fine tips give me the best precision for a winged-tip look! Prior to this, I was using Kat Von D's Tattoo Liner but when I was in Korea, my friend introduced me to this Clio Pen Liner that has since become my holygrail eyeliner! It costs only a fraction of the Kat Von D liner, yet produces similar results. I also love that it's waterproof (and hence tear proof because I cry way too often than I should). Have yet to try out their brush liners but I heard they're equally good!
Cyber Colours Serum Lipstick in Raisin Berry
I actually chanced upon this lipstick at Sasa one faithful day when I forgot to bring both my lip balm and my lipstick! As I mentioned earlier, I can't live without a lip balm yet I couldn't find a lip colour that was nice enough yet not too expensive, so I popped by Sasa hoping to find something decent, and that was when I saw this 2-in-1 lipstick! The outer rim of the lipstick is the colour, while the inner is the lipbalm.
It was a life saver + the muted rose colour is gorgeous + it was on sale at 20% off, why not!
Labiotte Wine Lip Tint in RD03
Many lip products promise to be smudge-proof and long-lasting, but this one takes the cake. I came to know of this product through a Youtube review but never really wanted to try this product until I chanced upon Labiotte's physical store while I was in Korea last Fall. I tried it on my hand and had a hard time removing it = sold. It smells sweet and is pretty easy to apply, except it leaves a slight tingling sensation which is rather perplexing to me.
Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Lolita
I snagged this lipstick at the grand opening of Ion Orchard's Sephora some time last year, and that was also the period where Kat Von D makeup was also first introduced in their stores! While majority of Kat Von D's fans prefer the liquid lip colours, I prefer Lolita in the studded lipstick version because the dusty rose shade is absolutely gorgeous!
The lip colour isn't drying as well, though I always keep in mind to apply lip balm before applying any lip colour. I've since used up one of these lipsticks and I recently got my second one during Sephora's Black Friday Sale.
Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water
At the end of the day, an effective make up remover is important in removing all the bits of make up and gunk on your skin before you wash up and prep your skin for the night. I love a good micellar cleansing water as it is mild, yet effectively removes my make up while leaving my skin feeling hydrated.
I've used the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water since 2015 (and in between, switched a couple of different make up removers - balm based, gel based) and nothing quite compares to the feeling of cleansed and hydrated skin from the use of micellar water. It's effective in removing even my tough waterproof mascara and a little really goes a long way!
