If I were to be asked to choose a brand of facial masks to use for the rest of my life, my answer would be of no doubt... My Beauty Diary. I first discovered the wonder of My Beauty Diary masks through Ellysage last year, when they had a collaboration and I received some free masks in my parcel.
As someone who doesn't take much care of her face, I have heard of the brand 'My Beauty Diary', but definitely never ever thought of trying them, simply because of the thought "Why would people believe that a sheet of cotton would improve their skin?" But after trying My Beauty Diary masks out, albeit skeptical, I am now an absolute believer — these masks do work, indeed. I had also previously raved about them here last year.
This year, courtesy of Ellysage, I received a full hamper of My Beauty Diary masks, as well as a set of White Formula moisturizing products. If you aren't aware, White Formula is a sister-brand of My Beauty Diary, and their moisturizing products are so highly-raved in Taiwan, adored by beauty experts and even appearing on various beauty-related shows too!
I'll be reviewing on the masks from My Beauty Diary as well as the White Formula Hyaluronic Acid range of products (facial foam, toner and lotion) from the hamper, and I hope you'll benefit from this entry.

1. My Beauty Diary 2013 All-in-One Limited Edition Mask Set (12 pieces)
I have always known since I first tried My Beauty Diary masks that these masks were made for me, but due to the many choices and series available, I can never make up my mind which series would benefit me best. Thus, other than the beautiful pastel-colored packaging in this set, what attracted me was that there were 12 entirely different masks that serves different purposes. With this, I can definitely find the mask I like best then get them as a set!
There are so many interesting series in this set, such as the red wine mask (moisturizing and brightening), pearl powder mask (whitening and repairing) and royal jelly mask (refining and revitalizing). My favorite has got to be the black pearl mask and coix seed mask.
2. My Beauty Diary Autumn 2-Step Repair Mask Pack (Snail Mask)
Snail extract goodness in a mask, how absolutely wonderful! This mask pack is slightly different compared to the usual range My Beauty Diary has, as it is a 2-step mask consisting of the mask itself + application of cream after. Interesting concept for sure.
The mask itself was great on my skin, as all other My Beauty Diary masks are. But I'm amazed by the cream (step 2), truly amazed. When I first applied, it seemed really thick and heavy that I almost regretted applying too much. However, within the next 30 seconds when I worked the cream on my skin, it was absorbed and left my skin completely dry without any bit of greasy feeling at all. I detest greasiness on my face, so this felt really nice on my skin.
3. My Beauty Diary Imperial Bird's Nest Mask Set (10 pieces)
I couldn't help but to imagine I was posing for some Chinese New Year advertorial as the packaging of the mask resembles so much like a typical hongbao. Well, they are equally precious! Everyone knows how nutritious bird's nest is to our body, and My Beauty Diary surely outdid itself by having these bird's nest masks.
If a certain food is good for our body intake, it must be better for our skin. Something about My Beauty Diary masks is that they always use natural ingredients, which will not cause irritation to our skin like chemicals do. For this imperial bird's nest mask, the essence was light and non-sticky, and left my skin feeling moisturized and supple the next morning.
4. My Beauty Diary Coix Seed Mask Set (10 pieces)
My first thoughts to this series of mask was "What's coix seed?". To make sure I actually knew what it was before I use them, I went to read up and found out that coix seed is a plant that has many benefits and uses, including for cancer. Plants can be so amazing at times.
For this coix seed mask, it mainly helps to sooth my skin and makes it illuminating. My face felt so much soother and less dull after the use of this mask, and this has since become one of my favorite masks in the entire My Beauty Diary series, along with the black pearl mask!
— White Formula —
As I've mentioned earlier, My Beauty Diary has a sister-brand White Formula, which is currently the hype in the beauty-industry of Taiwan. Their moisturizing products are extremely popular and adored by beauty experts, even appearing on Taiwan beauty-related shows too! Of course, I was excited to find out WHAT exactly it was that made it so highly-raved.
One perk about White Formula Super Moist Hyaluronic Acid products is that they are all fragrance and alcohol free. We all know how fragrances are being said to be extremely harmful to our skin, especially the facial skin which is very delicate. So yay to White Formula for that! Here's my take on the range of products that are used in 3 easy steps.
1. White Formula Super Moist Facial Foam with Hyaluronic Acid (Cleanser)
That wasn't whipped cream or the facial cleanser itself when dispensed from the bottle — it's the foam that formed when lathered. I wasn't a big fan of facial cleansers that foam in the past (I used Cetaphil, which had literally no foam at all). However, I have grown to believe that facial cleansers that foam is better as the the tiny particles are able to clean your pores easily.
While many may disagree and say that "facial foams are bad for your skin because they leave your skin squeaky clean by stripping the natural oil off" I am pleased with this particular White Formula Facial Foam because it doesn't entirely strip the oils off my face. After cleansing, my face wouldn't feel entirely empty and dry, but more towards the 'moisturized and clean' side. After all, this range of products is for normal to dry skin, and my face doesn't have that much oil to begin with. For users with combination/oily skin, you may opt to try the 'light' version which wouldn't be that harsh on your skin.
2. White Formula Super Moist Toner With Hyaluronic Acid (Toner)
After cleansing, it would be best to use the toner. As of now, I still haven't figured what a toner is. (What is it, anyone?) According to some sites, a toner is used after cleansing to remove the residue of the soap and also to soften your skin, making it better for the use of a moisturizer (step 3).
Indeed, when applied, this toner isn't the least bit oily at all and its watery consistency leaves my skin feeling refreshed, supple and dewy. My trick to using this is to apply just a tiny bit (say the size of a pea) which is more than enough for my entire face. It's amazing that the toner gets absorbed almost instantly. However, as the toner bottle doesn't come with a pump, it may get quite messy due to its watery consistency, especially if you aren't paying attention and pour too much onto your hand. So yes, paying attention is the key.
3. White Formula Super Moist Lotion With Hyaluronic Acid (Moisturizer)
I like that this lotion complements the toner very well in terms of consistency. You know how sometimes moisturizers or lotions are so thick and heavy, it feels more like oily whipped cream on your face instead? Well, this lotion is slightly different. With a thin, creamy-watery consistency, it doesn't feel at all heavy on my face.
When I first used this product upon receiving, I think I was too compelled to apply a lot on my face, so it felt slightly oily and my reaction was "What! I didn't know this would be so oily since the previous products in step 1 and 2 weren't...." However, on my second use, I decided not to greedily use too much at once. A pea-sized amount was enough for my face, and after massaging it thoroughly, it wasn't oily nor sticky at all. In fact, it left a soft dewy feeling on my face.
What I really love about this White Formula range is that the products are fragrance free and it worked so well on my skin. The cleanser doesn't make my face feel dry after washing, the toner is relatively gentle yet beneficial, and I can safely forget about having that 'sticky, oily, gross' feeling which was present with other moisturizers I used previously.
If you're as picky as me when it comes to skincare products, you've really got to try out My Beauty Diary masks and the equally-good White Formula Hyaluronic Acid range from their sister-brand. Most My Beauty Diary masks are available at pharmacy and personal care stores (such as Watsons, Guardian, Sasa etc) at only SGD$2 per mask, which is definitely a steal considering the benefits they bring.
As for White Formula, their products are at an affordable price with the toner being only SGD$19.90. That's really extremely affordable considering how little you'd need for each use. If you're looking for a fragrance/color/alcohol-free yet hydrating range, why not give White Formula a try? I'm pretty sure you'd be as satisfied as I am.
